Greg Ft. Valley Launches
The first topic of discussion was a couple of items that Dale Windsor had asked Greg to discuss.
1) Raising of flight fees at COSMOS (Ft.Valley) launches to $5.00 for all unless they have volunteered to help. Individuals that help throughout the meet (preliminary preparation, setup LCO, RSO, Pad Manager, Contest Judging, teardown, post preparation) will be given a "Golden Pass", of sorts, that would allow them to not only fly free but move to the front of lines when/if they get a chance to launch.
2) To combine the raffles of TARA and SOAR and split the profits later based on the value of the items provided by each
1) seemed
fine

2) was not
perceived
as a good
idea

Greg NSL (National Sport Launch) Bid (Memorial Day Weekend 1999)
Next order of business was discussion of the work needed to produce an NSL bid by July of this year. Items needed would be flyers, publicity, motel rooms, canopy, registration packet examples, level 2 RSO's, T-Shirts, Banquet room, FAA Waivers, Sod farm permission for 3 days and field dimensions. A committee will be needed to obtain and publish this proposal. President greg Burke will head up the committee, Harry Holmes will handle finances, Doyle Tatum will handle Web related items and Brad Van Duser could help with publicity/form related items. We will need as many volunteers as possible, to report to Greg, to pull this bid off by July.
Ask for volunteers at April Launch
Doyle Long Distance Costs
Brought up the fact that a more cost effective method was needed for Greg to place all the Long Distance phone calls necessary to obtain NSL information and solicitate prizes from vendors. Lennon Irvine (joined at meeting) said he would be able to handle finances related to these calls
Doyle will follow-up
Greg May Launch - Hobbytown Classic
This launch is a tribute to the vendor that has helped us out the most in the past year - Hobbytown-Kennesaw. We will need to get a sign-up sheet for Pad Mangers and LCOs. Brad Van Duser will be judging the Sport Scale and Greg the Odd Roc contest. Hobbytown will be represented and Rocket Science may come.
Greg has applied for 3000' waiver for Cartersville.

G. Harry Stine Design Award of Excellence - run yearly (Quadrathon to Quadrathon) Winners entries will be ran in newsletters and sent to Sport Rocketry Magazine. Doyle Tatum displayed his "Qualified" entry - the only one so far this year.

Greg Flight Fees
Flight fees are to be raised from $2.00 (non members) per day, to $5.00 (non members) per day. The reason for the increase is to bring the fee to a point where it is cost effective to immediately become a SoAR member.
Not enough members to vote
Greg Flight Times
New Cartersville flight times will be 10:00am until 5:00pm on Sundays. This will become effective at the April 19, 1998 launch. Set-up will begin at 9:00am.

Greg Safety
Joe Burley had asked Greg to mention the fact that it was dangerous to be flying composite motors at the 15' distance of the 1/8" rods. Composite motors will be flown at the 3/16" or 1/4" rods.

Harry Registration and Flight Cards
Harry presented the new forms, he has created, for registering for a flight card at the launches. He has redesigned the flight cards too.

Doyle Pamphlet
Doyle presented a new idea. A pamphlet that can be mailed or given to people wanting more information on our club. It includes a club history, directions, launch and meeting schedules, etc. It could be used to supplement newsletters and is not costly to produce (a single piece of paper, printed duplex and tri-folded). Harry will be handing one out with each flight card at the April launch.

Doyle Banquet
The idea of a year end Banquet was presented. It could possibly be held at a Quincy's or Ryan's, where we could use the back room and each person would purchase their own food. We could give out awards or discuss future events along with getting together to do what we do best - discuss rockets.

Doyle Hobbytown Exhibition
Need to plan a rocketry exhibition for the Kennesaw store. We would schedule working times for club members and display rockets and have building/questions/membership tables set-up. This would promote the sales for Hobbytown and gain members for our club. Around Christmas would be the prime time.
Need Committee to look into
Doyle T-Shirts
Doyle memntioned that it is possible that a vendor (like a Hobbytown or B & B) might be interested in paying for SoAR t-shirts, to have their name prominately displayed on them.
