***** - Dan Hamilton declined
the nomination for President.
The only office needing a vote was for President. After counting the ballots, Steve Bellio was
elected President of SoAR for 2000.
Award to Harry:
Vice
President Hamilton then presented outgoing Treasurer Holmes with a “Rocket
Lamp” in appreciation for all the hard work Harry has done for the club.
Year End Review:
President
Tatum then gave a “year end” review of items that occurred in the club:
NSL ‘99 Planning
March Launch Biggest Ever (Classic)
NSL ‘99 in May
Resignation of Greg Burke after NSL
Election of Dan Hamilton as Vice President
Boy Scout building session
CAP cadets presentation
B&B and Hobbytown Demos
October Sky opening (Gwinett AMC Theater)
Bylaws update
SoAR Infoline (770-664-6250)
1st Annual Club Banquet in December
First member to fly a Level 3 flight (Dale Windsor)
$4500 in prizes donated for NSL ‘99 and SoM-5
Treasurers Report:
Harry
Holmes reported that we have $2731.65 on hand and have spent approximately
$1000 since July. He also stated we
have 109 active memberships with 4 renewed for 2000. With the projected income for 2000, he felt there would be no
problem allocating $1800 for a new club trailer.
Awareness Program:
There
were reported to be 4 new membership applications filled out on the Web Page.
Contest Committee Report:
Steve Bellio reported on the Mick Meet 2000 to be held in March in
Perry. Mike Nehez will be the contest
director this year.
Range Equipment Committee:
President
Tatum announced the formation of the “Range Equipment” Committee. This will be chaired by Greg Burke. A status report was given by Greg, stating
that the high power pads would be rebuilt. Also, new low power controllers would be developed. The club was acquiring new stainless steel
rods. There would also possibly be a
separate contest range set of equipment. We had volunteers for welding and raw stock steel components.
Trailer Discussion:
Greg
Burke reported that he had found out that the club can use the NAR’s Tax number
for non-profit status and save on taxes of the purchase. It was the feeling of the members that a 6 x
10 size would be sufficient. We would
need to outfit the trailer with shelves and slide in boxes. The trailer could be labeled with the club’s
logo and signage. It was approved by
the members at the meeting to consolidate the “Trailer Committee” into the
“Range Equipment” committee.
Other Items:
a) “Drop in”
style name badges,
b) Having a “orange vest” for the RSO,
c) Waiver status – trying to get a “Controlled Firing Area” (CFA) for the
Cartersville field, could activate
anytime … just need to call it in,
d) New membership cards … Doyle / Jim / Martie / Steve,
e) Altitude tracking (Roy Green) contest … need equipment,
f) Club radios (sent to Range Equipment committee).
Mini SoAR:
David Hamilton
made a proposal that the club endorse a “Mini SoAR” or “SoAR within SoAR” or
“SoARTREK” just for kids. This group
would hold their own contests and conduct their own launches. Much positive discussion came from
this. David Butcher suggested David
Hamilton present his ideas to the group during a launch. He also suggested the club could purchase a
“bulk pack” of rockets and give them out to new members. Greg Burke suggested that a “kid only”
membership might have reduced dues.
Closing:
The meeting
finished around 4:38 p.m. after which, a video of Dale Windsor’s Level 3 Flight
was shown.
