Opening:
President Steve Bellio called the meeting to order at approximately 3:12pm at Noonday Park. Chere Amend sitting in for Secretary Dave Amend read the minutes of the May meeting. They were approved after a motion by Steve and seconded by Ken.
Treasurer’s Report:
Steve gave the report for Martie who was not able to attend. The current balance is $2746. Steve suggested we review the current expenses and the proposed budget. Several suggestions were made and some changes were make to the proposed budget. Steve will supply the amended proposed budget to be included with the minutes to the Amends.
Staffing Needs:
We have launch directors for the upcoming year.
Contest Director:
Dale cannot continue as Contest director and be there to run everything else. So a new Contest Director is needed. Volunteers for future Contest Directors are: Steve Bellio, Romie Lucas. Anyone interested in being a Contest Director should contact Dale.
New Field search:
1) Romie reported on field between Watkinsville and Greensboro. The owner will allow us to use the field as long as we do not start any fires or trample any crops. There is no fee to use this field. A waiver needs to be filed. Steve will get with Dave Amend and submit required paperwork to FAA.
2) Dave Fountain has found a field. No further discussion took place.
3) Greg Burke found a field in Cartersville. Ken and Dale offered to go and look at this field.
4) Steve is talking to Cobb County Park and Rec. They are searching for a field for us to use.
Everyone discussed the need for a local field. Noonday and Shallowford were two local options discussed. The group also discussed fields for the larger rockets that are available. Possibilities mentioned were Frog Pond, and the Lily, Georgia field. It was suggested that we publish the dimensions of the field that we are searching for. The website was suggested as a good place to post this.
Per Dale – SOAR has been invited to fly in Lily, Georgia next weekend. Dale will check on details and send out an email to everyone.
Launch Date Discussion:
August Launch – At Watkinsville field – August 18 and 19th. Ron will check on hotels in the area. Romie will get the coordinates.
September Launch – September 15th. This is tentative at the Macintosh field.

Range Committee:
Dan and Jim are currently working on the ¼ inch heads per Steve.
Public Awareness Committee:
Terry talked about “Rocketry Education Summer Training”. Spoke with Dianne Pore at KSC and found out they already have a class that involves people from the FAA and NASA. The class at KSC is November 10th and has a max. 150 attendees.
Cub Scouts:
Terry reminded everyone that on Tuesday July 17, and Friday, July 20, Martie is coordinating a presentation to the Scouts at Burt Adams. Start time is 6:45 pm.
Website:
Roy Green volunteered to be the new Webmaster. Luthin Crenshaw also volunteered to help with website.
Contest Committee:

Membership Committee:
It was suggested that we expand the Board Committee list to include the people that contribute. Jeff stated that we need to put flyers in hobby shops with details on club such as contact numbers and launch details. It was also suggested that we use the website more to share information. A small poster needs to be created to post in the hobby shops. Romie and Ken will work up a poster. Steve will contact Hobbytown about putting poster in store. Ron will check with B&B.
SOAR Store:
Mike D. reported that once the new field is found, the SOAR store will start up again. Mike needs the paperwork from the trailer. Mike has a new connection to do some neat ideas on shirts.
New Business:
None of the repairs have been made on list per David.
Closing:
The meeting closed at 4:35pm. Rockets were launched shortly after closing. |
