Results of discussion:
- We will pursue the idea of storing the club equipment trailer on the
Braselton site with necessary security precautions.
- The Mick Meet has been renamed "The Mick Wilkins Sport Scale Launch" (or
the Mick Launch). The launch will no longer be a NAR sanctioned competition,
instead it will be a scale themed sport launch with all scale modelers (not
just NAR members) eligible for prizes. Winners will be determined by
people's choice. We will move the launch to May to take advantage of better
weather conditions.
- July will be our Glider Fest launch, a glider themed sport launch with
prizes.
- We will participate in this year's Dobbins airshow.
- December will be our Christmas party.
A major focus this year will be promoting the hobby by hosting regular
launches at the Braselton field and holding regular club meetings with
workshops/seminars. There will be a concerted effort to find a field on the
West side of town that can support Large Model Rockets.
After the meeting Dale Windsor (me) displayed a small portion of his
collection of old rocketry-related magazines (American Modeler, Modelarz,
California Rocketry, High Power Research, The Rocket Collector, Modroc, and
others). Some of these are almost 50 years old and show what amateur
rocketry was like before G. Harry Stine and the NAR.
And to show that he can still build rockets Dale (me again) brought a
partially complete Aries scale model that will fly at the next launch with a
cluster of 4 - D12s.
Alan Adamson brought his newest baby a full 54mm K motor casing - Purple
Woody. A beautiful piece of hardware with purple anodizing. Can't wait to
see what propellant he'll mix up for that.
The new club flyer was also distributed some going to the Kennesaw
HobbyTown, Duluth HobbyTown, B&B Hobbies and other locations.
Next launch Sunday February 2, 2003
