SOM4 Launch 1998 (Page 1)
Madness Project |

Mike Nehez looks on as Dave
Fountain steadies "Madness 1" |

Off to the pad (notice that
Rocket owner -Doyle Tatum
doesn't have to carry his own
rocket!) Madness 1 = 8 feet
tall, 7.51" diameter, 20 lbs with
motor. |

Jamie Jenkins looks on as the
rocket is carefully slid onto
the 1/2" rod. |

Final pad adjustments |

J350 Blastoff - estimated 800' |

This picture is not upside
down. The J350 malfunctioned
(burned around the spiral in the
delay grain) and burned up through
the rocket, ejecting a chute on the
way up! |

At about 400' the rocket stopped
and the other chute was pulled out.
They are tangled here but they
unraveled on the decent. |

Hard to see through it's own
smoke, but if you look carefully
you can see the two sections,
landing unharmed, near the pads. |
